Custom Orthotics
Custom orthotics are prescription insoles made specifically for your feet, your gait and your symptoms. At our Worthing clinic, we design orthotics using Footscan dynamic pressure plate analysis and produce them as Phits 3D designed devices, so the support matches the way you actually stand and move.
How Custom Orthotics Can Help
What are custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics are medical devices made to your prescription, and they are not the same as the generic insoles you buy in a shop. They work by redistributing pressure, improving alignment and reducing strain on the tissues that are causing you pain. When they are prescribed correctly, they can make a real difference to comfort, mobility and long term foot health.
Conditions custom orthotics can help
Orthotics are used for a wide range of foot and lower limb problems. These include plantar fasciitis and heel pain, flat feet or fallen arches, high arched feet, Achilles tendon pain, forefoot pain, Morton’s neuroma, bunions, arthritis affecting the feet, shin splints and tibialis posterior dysfunction. Because foot alignment affects the whole leg, orthotics can also help with knee, hip and lower back pain related to the way you walk, as well as sports related overuse injuries.
How your orthotics are designed
Your orthotics are prescribed as part of a detailed foot and pain assessment. We look at your history and symptoms, examine how your joints and muscles work, and analyse your gait using Footscan pressure plate technology. This shows us exactly how load moves through your feet as you walk, rather than relying on a static impression alone. From this data we design a Phits 3D printed orthotic that targets your specific pressure points and alignment needs, so the finished device is precise and tailored to you.

Meet your Worthing podiatrists
Orthotic assessment and prescription is carried out by Tristan Valeny and James Coston, podiatrists registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Their biomechanical training means your orthotics are prescribed to address the cause of your symptoms, not just to cushion the area. Meet the Team here.
Custom Orthotics FAQs
How are custom orthotics different from shop bought insoles?
Shop insoles offer generic cushioning. Custom orthotics are prescribed from your own pressure and gait data and made to correct your specific problem, which is why they tend to be far more effective for pain and alignment issues.
How long do orthotics take to get used to?
Most people adjust within one to two weeks. We usually recommend wearing them for a few hours at first and building up, and we are happy to review the fit.
How long do custom orthotics last?
With normal use, well made orthotics typically 2-3 years, though this depends on your activity levels and footwear.
Will orthotics fit in my shoes?
We design your orthotics with your usual footwear in mind and will advise on the styles that work best with them.
