Nail Surgery
At Sussex Total Foot Care, we carry out nail surgery for patients suffering with ingrown, fungal or deformed nails.
Waiting for nail surgery on the NHS can take six months plus, leading to long term pain. By seeing one of our highly experienced team, you can have both your pre-operative appointment and surgery within a couple of weeks.
Ingrown toenails
Ingrown toenails occur when the nail curls into and pierces the skin, which becomes painful and often infected. The main causes of ingrown nails are shoes which are too tight, fungal nail infections or nails cut into a sharp or jagged shape. Diabetes could also aggravate ingrown nails. Ingrown toenails often require specialist treatment, so it is important to see someone as soon as you notice symptoms, such as itching, bleeding, throbbing or pus.
Fungal Nails
Fungal nails are infected with fungus and are often brittle and discoloured. Toenail surgery for fungal nails usually comes as the result of other treatment options not working or if the condition is causing a lot of pain.
Deformed nails
Nails which have grown back deformed due to injury, poorly fitted shoes or other underlying conditions, can be removed if they are causing considerable pain
At Sussex Total Foot Care, whatever the cause of your pain, we carry out nail surgery under local anaesthetic and depending on the severity and condition of the nail, we remove part or all of it.
Our Nail Surgery Packages include the Surgery, aftercare, Two follow up redressing/review appointments and mepore dressing supply.

New patient assessment
All new routine care patients will receive an appointment of up to 45 minutes. Your new patient appointment will be with one of our clinical team to assess the condition of their feet and discuss any recurrent issues. Once this is complete the agreed treatment will be carried out during this appointment. The goal of this appointment is to provide maintenance of healthy feet through care of nails, hard skin, corns, fungal nails and ingrown toenails. Skin care and advice can be provided for conditions such as Verrucae, Athlete’s foot, fissures and Psoriasis. Any management will be provided in this appointment followed by a short foot massage with cream to make to feel light on your feet afterwards.

Fungal toenails
Fungal nails are a common problem, which are characterised by a green/yellow/brown/black colouring and a brittle, flaky texture. Our team will assess your nail/s and provide the most effective course of action for treatment, which may include topical treatment advice or if severe, complete removal.

Toenail surgery
We offer full toenail treatment services to remove any ingrowing or deformed nails when necessary. Ingrown toenails if left untreated can lead to pain, swelling and infection.
Surgery to remove part or all the toenail is often required if the nail is frequently re-growing into the side of the toe. Surgery is a permanent solution to cure the problem and is a simple procedure, carried out using local anaesthetic. The package includes Surgery, followed by two redressing/review appointments and a pack of Mepore dressings.
Only two follow up redressing’s should be required. If additional redressing appointments are required these will be charged at £25 per appointment.
